The schools of Vidya Bharti have attained great recognition with passing time in Devbhumi

Uttrakhand by showing their overall performance in each domain of life. The state people like Vidya Bharti System of Education because of that Sher Singh Karki Saraswati Vihar, School, Muwani was established in March 2018 under the egis of Parwati Prema Jagati Saraswati Vihar Senior Secondary School Society, Beerbhatti, Durgapur, Nainital. The front name of the school is in beloved memory of Mahatma Sher Singh Karki, a renowned freedom fighter, passionate teacher and social worker. The project is also blessed with the affectionate support of Prior Honorable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari. The social workers and local society also joined their hands to bring things together.

The lack of basic facilities and quality education in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand have been a major cause of concern for years now which has been resulting into mass migration and formation of ghost villages.

This project is designed to support the following initial areas:-

• Promotion of quality education with in hand practices of agriculture including horticulture and floriculture, medicinal and other traditional global practices
• Development of sports facilities
• Upliftment and sustainable management of available resources
• Creation of homeground for learners as a whole
• Development of self sustainable villages
• A centre for excellence creating social awareness and skill development
• Special focus on multiple intelligence and holistic approach of creative and critical thinking
• Sensitization of national, regional, moral and cultural values amongst learners
• Local and social participation for harmony, co-existence, equity and equality

From the time of establishment of Uttarakhand as a new state regular and planned efforts

have been taking place for the upliftment of the status of life of common people. With same vision a seed of education was sowed in the beautiful village Muwani “A part of Ramganga valley”, situated at Border district Pithoragarh. The human population benefitted from this project will be around 50,000 in nearby future. The village is the centre of divine natural beauty, historical cultural places and agriculture enriched fertile land. The main occupation is agriculture. The village is surrounded by many historical, spiritual places and places of national importance like Pithoragarh, Thal, Didihat, Kotgadi Mandir (pankhu), Berinag, Dharchula and Munsyari. Located in the foothills of Himalayas, originating from Namik Glacier, East Ramganga River is like a boon for all the villages located around it.

• The school is established in a large plot of more than six Acres.
• The first part of the name of the school Sher Singh Karki is taken from the name of Late Mahatma Sher Singh Karki (1895-1997).
• He was a renowned freedom fighter, Gandhivadi, passionate teacher, and a social worker with commitment of development of society.
• Mahila Ashram was opened and established in Year 1960 by Mahatma Sher Singh Karki for empowerment of women which is still putting efforts for fulfilling his dreams.
• The main objectives were to provide a safe place for socially evicted women’s empowerment, upliftment and their rehabilitation if possible.
• Without education and proper planned daily routine all this is never possible.
• With the help of ongoing project “Sher Singh Karki Saraswati Vihar School, Muwani” we seem moving towards right direction.
• The second part of the name of school “Saraswati Vihar” is derived from the maternal institute Parwati Prema Jagati Saraswati Vihar Senior Secondary School Society, Nainital.
• The school got its temporary affiliation from state to run a primary Co-ed school (Class Nursery till class 5th ) in year 2019.
• The school extended its temporary affiliation from State to run a upper primary Co-ed school (Class Nursery till class 8th ) in year 2020.
• At present school is having a total of more than hundred students from class nursery till class 8th of nearby twenty villages.

Future plans

School has been planned to be affiliated from CBSE up to class 12th (A co-ed system of classrooms) in nearby future. Taking a step forward it will be established as a boarding school serving as a source of quality driven education for whole border area.

• To run a school till Secondary level- class rooms, laboratories (computer, science and activity), library and playgrounds are amongst the immediate necessities.
• With the help of this project not only a model centre for education will be development but it will also serve as a resource centre of social and national awareness.

For this pious effort lots of social workers have already been contributing in every possible way. The physical infrastructure and other facilities required for successfully running the project are under construction. The support of entire society is of utmost importance and without it all these thoughts will never be achieving the ground. In the ritual of education, sacraments and skill development the emotional and cooperative I request to all the stakeholders to join hands with Sher Singh Karki Sarawati Vihar for brighter and better education in Uttrakhand.
